The great Ice Storm of 07

Well, thankfully, I didn't go into labor during the ice storm and have to drive to the hospital on a tractor. (My mom actually did have to drive a tractor, in labor, to the nearest neighbors house, a mile or two away, when she was in labor with my older sister...also the result of winter storms and vehicles not starting in the cold.)

And we got our power back on Thursday night, having been without it since the Sunday night before. However, my sweet, resourceful hubby went out at 5 am on Monday and got one of the soon-to-be-last generators available, so we had some measure of power by Tuesday night (heat, a lamp in the kitchen, and the refrigerator.) We cooked on a little gas camping stove (also, Walt's resources.) And I got this awesome little battery powered lightbulb for one of our closets at Target, which turned out to be an amazing little contraption that we used like an old lantern, taking it to the bathroom, anywhere we needed more than a candle.

Jenny and Ethan stayed with us all week too, Ethan slept on his little crib mattress on the floor, Jenny slept on the couch. Mike slept at the hospital. They just got power on yesterday, but Dad came and got a generator in Kansas for them, so they've been staying at their house for a few days. It was fun having them here, but I know Ethan got a bit tired of not having room to run.

And we stayed the last night of our adventure at our friend's 4,000 sq ft house in Edmond. Very nice. Very sweet of them.

All in all, we fared very well through the storm! Our trees, on the other hand, did not. All of them will probably have to be completely chopped down this spring, except for our littlest blessing tree, which didn't lose a branch.

Oh, and a sad little squirrel that picked the wrong place to perch in an ice storm.
